What precisely is this?

Okay, so i have literally no idea what this dreamwidth business is. I was looking for comic book info, because I now live in central america and finding such things is rather difficult here, and finding them in English just straight isn't going to happen. So maybe this is a blog? I've never done the blog thing before. Maybe I'll wind up talking about being an immigrant from the USA eventually, but for now, I just really hope someone could answer my question as to what I got myself into here. Thanks.

DW is a journal, which is probably a sort-of blog? I'm not an expert myself. You can post entries, you can reply to other people's entries, and you can subscribe to them. You can also subscribe to communities and RSS-feeds. It's similar to LiveJournal, if you know LJ (only better.) You can find out more here, for example: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Dreamwidth (Or on the DW site itself, of course, but I don't know it that well. Just poke around.)
In general, if you make an entry only the people subscribed to you will most likely read it. I just found my way here because you used my invited code and I was curious *g*
